The Star Entertainment Group has appointed Steve McCann as its new Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD).
According to the operator, McCann will join the group on 8 July, but his duties will only commence after necessary regulatory approvals from both New South Wales and Queensland.
This is not the first time McCann has been thrown into the firepit of Australian casino life, and his term as CEO and MD of Crown Resorts in 2021 may well have been the perfect preparation for life at Crown’s fellow Australian operator.
McCann was also Group CEO and MD of real estate development and fund management group Lendlease for 13 years.
Anne Ward, Chairman of The Star, said: “Given his time with Crown, and previous long-standing leadership at Lendlease, he has the right credentials to lead The Star’s remediation program. His track record reflects his capability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and lead meaningful transformational change and cultural renewal.
“This experience will be invaluable as we work towards rebuilding trust and expediting the sustainable transformation of The Star.”
McCann said: “I look forward to joining The Star at this critical time. I recognise that there are many complex issues and challenges for the company to address. I am committed to working with the Board and the various stakeholders to help drive change, restore confidence and achieve a sustainable resolution.”
The Star Entertainment’s last update was the appointment of its new Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jeannie Mok in May, and had forecasted an earnings decrease for its Q4 revenue.
