The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming (IBJR) have signed an agreement in an attempt to protect sports betting integrity in Brazil.

The main goal of the agreement is to create initiatives that strengthen match-fixing monitoring, and dependability in Brazilian sporting events and online betting.

The organisations’ collaboration is a response to the introduction of regulation in the industry, and the manipulation of games and bets involving athletic events in Brazil.

The agreement also seeks to deepen links between the two organisations by working together on initiatives, to create a viable betting market with high rates of onshore consumer spending and to protect the integrity of Brazil’s market.

Furthermore, IBJR and IBIA will work together with authorities and sports organisations to ensure Brazil benefits fully from a vibrant and competitive sports betting market while lowering the likelihood of match-fixing.

André Gelfi, IBJR CEO, said: “Sector regulation is essential to increase the authorities’ monitoring and collaboration actions to curb match-fixing schemes, protecting sports betting companies and Brazilian bettors.

“To that end, we have already introduced IBIA representatives to the key authorities so that closer cooperation can be established to tackle the issue effectively.”

Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, said: “IBIA is delighted to reach this important agreement with the IBJR. It is clear from our conversations that we share the same values and goals for the Brazilian sports betting market. We will now be seeking to explore joint projects that progress those important objectives.”

Recently, IBIA released its Q1 integrity report and emphasised its development into Brazil, while IBJR established a code of advertising self-regulation for sports betting.
