No changes for NY mobile sports betting launch after Cuomo resignation

The allegations started last year, but the investigation’s findings were the tipping point that forced Cuomo to resign.

The pace to introduce mobile sports wagering, which is in the process of being regulated in the state of New York, is not expected to have big changes.

New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo said that the transition won’t affect the timeline, which was on pace to be introduced in February after the Super Bowl.

“Now for the sake of the 19 million people of this state, we must come together as New Yorkers and continue to move forward in improving the lives of our residents and maintain government services. There is still work to be done and we will rise to this occasion as we always do in the face of challenging times,” Addabbo commented.

Governor Kathy Hochul is preparing to take over in two weeks, and is set to become the state’s first female governor.

“With enthusiasm, I look forward to working with Kathy Hochul and her administration,” Addabbo added.

Addabbo has been a force in the New York sports betting field for years. The Senator is the Chairman of the Racing, Gaming, and Wagering Committee and has been leading the push for mobile sports betting in the state.

The New York State Gaming Commission should have its decision on which groups get bids by the start of 2022. While an exact launch target remains undefined, 2022 is looking like the launch for mobile operators.
