SkyCity Group has announced the dates of the five-day closure period for its SkyCity Auckland casino’s gambling area following an agreement with the Secretary for Internal Affairs.
The closure will take place from 9 September (Monday) to 13 September (Friday) 2024, inclusively.
As mentioned previously, the five-day closure was due to Skycity Auckland “failing to meet its host responsibility obligations in respect of a former customer.”
Only the gambling area, and food and beverages services, will be affected by the closure. SkyCity Auckland hotels, Sky Tower, theatre, restaurants and bars outside the gambling area will remain in operation as usual.
“The closure is the result of failings on the part of SkyCity, which we have accepted responsibility for. We failed to meet the standards expected of us in this case,” said SkyCity CEO Jason Walbridge.
SkyCity also ensured its staff will be rostered and paid as usual during the closure period.
SkyCity was ordered to cease operations for five days by the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) in mid-July for the above failure. The group has since formally apologised to the Secretary of Internal Affairs and has since rectified the above-mentioned design error, as SkyCity New Zealand COO Callum Mallett stated.
Callum Mallet was previously the Interim CEO before Jason Walbridge’s appointment. He has now resumed his role as SkyCity New Zealand’s COO.
