SportPesa signs sponsorship deal with Cape Town City FC

sportpesacapetownca based sports betting company SportPesa has announced the signing of a four year deal with South African PSL football team, Cape Town City FC in which the firm will become the clubs official title sponsor. The deal marks the first entry by SportPesa in to the South African gambling market and will see SportPesa branding featuring on the clubs home and away shirts and advertising at the clubs 55,000 seater Cape Town Stadium. Financial terms of the multi-year deal were not disclosed; however it is understood to be a multi-million rand deal. SportPesa have a large portfolio of sponsorship deals with some of footballs biggest clubs including, Everton, Southampton and Arsenal. The bookmaker also serves as the principle sponsor of the Kenyan Premier League. In a press conference announcing the sponsorship deal, Director of SportPesa in South Africa, Nick Ferguson said: “We welcome our first football partners in South Africa, Cape Town City FC to our global portfolio. Our pioneering partnership is a big statement by SportPesa to showcase our commitment to football development in this country. “We are more than happy to work with Cape Town City FC, a club that stands for our values and we look forward to a period of greater success inspired by the start of our journey together,” Ferguson remarked during the signing ceremony. Cape Town City FC Chairman & Founder John Comitis added: “It is exciting times for the club. Sponsors like SportPresa are enablers. They enable clubs like Hull and Everton. They are a betting partner of Southampton and Arsenal, and they originated out of Kenya, sponsoring two major clubs Gor Mahia and AC Leopards as well as the league.” “The decision to partner was more than a partnership, it was a footballing decision to open doors for this club. It gives exposure and access to players in an endeavour to have a team to compete at the highest level. It is a brilliant sweetener to kick off the season”.
