On the south coast of England, Southampton Football Club and crypto-based sports betting operator Sportsbet.io have demonstrated a further example.
Indeed, Sportsbet.io has announced the launch of the ‘Crypto Fan Fund,’ donating two Bitcoin (BTC) to its partner Southampton.
The fund will be used to deliver fan-led initiatives, starting with the 2021-22 season. Two BTC, according to current market price, is equivalent to $133,754.20.
All decisions on how and where the fund is used will be made by Saints Voice, Southampton’s long-standing supporter panel.
Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier commented on the initiative: “The people that will be deciding where this money goes will be the Saints Voice, which is the fan group that was set up to build a link between them and the club, which is incredibly important for football clubs to engage with their fans.
“And so this group has got the donation in their hands and they are the kings, they are the decision makers; and I’m sure they will make some fantastic decisions as to where this donation will go.”
Sporsbet.io is a sports betting operator that only accepts payment in cryptocurrencies. It is owned by Yolo Group, which recently rebranded from Coingaming Group, and previously sponsored Watford Football Club – another Premier League outfit.
Southampton, meanwhile, has enjoyed a healthy run of form on the pitch, currently sitting 13th in the Premier League table.
