Spotlight Sports Group hires VP of content, alongside recruits from PointsBet and DraftKings

Spotlightnewguy

Previously NBC’s Director of Gambling Content, Pozner joins Spolight to lead Pickswise, its US affiliate site. And Pozner will be welcoming alongside him new hires from operators PointsBet and DraftKings.

Spotlight’s expansion in the US comes at a time when the US sports betting content race is heating up by the week.

Recent deals have seen operator DrafKings acquire VSiN, FanDuel sign an exclusive content partnership with the Associated Press, and affiliates Catena Media, XLMedia and Better Collective continue their campaigns in North America, especially via M&A deals.

Pozner arrives at Spotlight following a decade at NBC Sports. Indeed, the spotlight has truly been on the exec throughout, with Pozner credited as playing a pivotal role in NBC launching its sports betting capabilities through free-to-play games.

Harry von Behr, Managing Director of Spotlight Sports Group, commented: “The American sports betting market continues to change rapidly, but the one constant is a strong demand for quality content that educates, informs and inspires bettors.

“Dan’s experience in building betting brands and creating successful content, including podcasts and managing partner bookmaker relationships, is an enormous asset to Pickswise as we continue to grow into one of America’s top sports betting sites.”

The landscape for sports betting content in America is extremely competitive with media companies, experts and influencers all competing for the attention of this growing and engaged audience Dan Pozner, VP of Content, Spotlight Sports Group

Von Behr has previously appeared on the GI Huddle outlining Spotlight’s US ambitions, while the group also recently extended its collaboration with fellow affiliate Better Collective.

Pozner himself, meanwhile, added: “The landscape for sports betting content in America is extremely competitive with media companies, experts and influencers all competing for the attention of this growing and engaged audience. “I was immediately drawn to Pickswise’s aggressive approach to expansion in the US market through educating and entertaining sports bettors with free, accessible data-driven insights without the need for a paid subscription. “Pickswise is the ultimate first-step destination for sports bettors looking to make stronger and more informed bets; and I’m looking forward to expanding and innovating Pickswise’s growing and trusted content portfolio.” Naturally, the executive has confidence in his new firm. But he is not wrong to highlight the “extremely competitive” nature of US sports betting content. As Spotlight continues to battle other brands in the US media space, expect more movement in the coming weeks and months. And expect gaming firms to poach even more talent from US broadcasters.
