Star Entertainment: Extension of manager appointment

manager appointmentListen To Article

The Star Entertainment announced that New South Wales Independent Casino Commission (NICC) will further extend the appointment of its new Sydney Casino manager Nicholas Weeks to 31 March 2025, unless terminated by the NICC.

The announcement came right after the resignation of the group’s Chief Risk Officer, Scott Saunders, which was only a short while after The Star Entertainment announced the formal appointment of its Group CFO and its Sydney CEO, with all necessary regulatory approvals received for both roles.

The Star Entertainment also this week denied media speculation that it has received or published the report regarding its second Independent Inquiry.

The report, prepared by Adam Bell SC, has been submitted to the New South Wales Independent Casino Commission on 31 July. However, it has not yet been publicly released and the group confirmed that it “has not received a copy of the Report or been advised of its contents.”

This second report is part of the Independent Inquiry into The Star in accordance with the Casino Control Act 1992 (NSW). The investigations started as early as 2022, following allegations linking the operator to criminal activity in other states.

Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) then commenced civil penalty proceedings in the Federal Court against the group for “serious and systemic non-compliance with Australia’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) laws.”
